Who We Are
We are a Caring Community where we strive to work together. It's a place where we find Hope and Purpose as we follow Jesus Christ. At South Langley Church we are convinced that life is filled with possibility, mystery and meaning. Allowing God to reawaken within us the curiosity to explore and discover Him brings hope into our lives. We believe that Jesus is God's gift to us that allows our hearts to respond to this wonder. You are invited to explore our website and to join us on a life changing journey of knowing and following Jesus.
What Happens on a Sunday Morning
A typical Sunday morning service starts at 10:15am, although we invite you to come early and to chat with us in our foyer. Normally we start with worship, consisting of a nice mixture of modern worship songs and some hymns as well. Following this we have a scripture reading and Church Family News. This is a time where we share what is going on in the church and give you a chance to share prayer requests and praise items with the church congregation. Next we have a sermon from one of our highly skilled pastors or sometimes guest speakers. The service concludes with another worship song and a benediction. Following the service we invite you to join us for coffee and snacks in our foyer where great conversation is always happening.
In 1948 a small group of young people from East Aldergrove decided to hold Sunday School classes in the Brookswood area. Using the Brookswood Community Hall they held classes every Sunday afternoon. The classes were well received, the children came and attendance grew.
In 1958 the East Aldergrove MB Church youth group started a fund to raise money for a permanent Brookswood Church building.
They purchased an acre of land on 36th Avenue in 1959 and services began officially on November 22, 1964 with 17 charter members.
After many happy years in this building the congregation moved, in 1977, to it's current location on 22nd Avenue in Fernridge.
The building served the church family well until 2008 when discussions began on the growing needs of the congregation & the aging building. It was decided that major renovations needed to be done to the worship centre and administration wing. Phase I was completed in early 2011. Phase II was started shortly after that and was completed in April 2012. On November 22, 2014 we celebrated 50 years of God's goodness.
We are grateful to God for His faithfulness in the past and we are excited for what God has in store for us in the days to come.
"We always thank God for all of you... We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3
What We Believe
We believe there is one God, never ending, who exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God revealed Himself in creation, through the Old and New Testaments, and ultimately through Jesus Christ, His Son. The inspired Word of God, the Bible, is our guide for faith and Christian living.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, is true God and true man.
We believe that man and woman were created in the image of God. By sinning they broke fellowship with God, bringing upon themselves and the entire human race physical and spiritual death. But Christ died for our sin. He rose on the third day delivering us from the power of sin, death.
We believe that all who put their trust in Jesus Christ receive the forgiveness of sin and are born again by the Holy Spirit as children of God.
We believe that peace and reconciliation are at the heart of the Christian gospel. God has called us to seek peace in all our relationships.
We are a community of God's people...
- who come together to share the love we have received in Jesus Christ in a concerned caring way.
- who come seeking to discover practical applications of God's Word for our lives.
- who value worshiping God together, in the context of a multi-generational congregation.
- who value Care Groups where we can grow and multiply through study, sharing and prayer.
We are affiliated with the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. Our heritage comes out of the Anabaptist-Mennonite movement of sixteenth century Europe with its strong commitment to the Word of God. The word "Brethren" emphasizes the ministry of all God's people in our church. Although we began with strong ethnic roots we have grown to embrace people of all races and denominations in the Body of Christ.
