First Steps

Thanks for checking out South Langley Church. We aim to be a welcoming space to find community and explore faith. We’re diverse in our backgrounds and perspectives, but united by our commitment to relationships and to Jesus. Here you’ll find all the basic information you need to know about SLC. But the truth is, you don’t truly know the heart of SLC until you’ve been in a room with our people. So I’m hoping we see you on a Sunday. If you do visit, please do approach me and introduce yourself. I can’t wait to meet you.

Sunday Mornings

Our 10am services are contemporary and approachable. We value excellence, but we are also a family, and we don’t take ourselves too seriously!

Typical services run 75 minutes, and include modern worship songs and an engaging sermon on a passage from the Bible. A unique feature of our services is Church Family News, where we open up the floor for a few minutes, and allow people to share prayer requests on the microphone.

You’re welcome to participate as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. We hope you’ll come as you are, and walk away transformed.

We have a staffed Nursery available for the whole service, and kids age 3 to grade 5 go upstairs for Sunday School about 20 minutes into the service. Visit the check in counter in the foyer before the service.

Our Staff

We have an amazing staff team who love God and love others. We love our jobs and are happy to serve you in any way we can.

Our Mission

Our mission statement is helping people know and follow Jesus.

We have also discerned together that currently, God is calling us to prioritize three sub-goals:

  • ENCOUNTER GOD - Become people who seek God deeply in prayer and worship and depend radically on the Holy Spirit.

  • EQUIP GOD’S PEOPLE - Train and deploy disciples for ministry at SLC and in their individual contexts.

  • ENGAGE THE CITY - Bless the people of Langley and invite them into relationship with Jesus.

We pursue this mission and these goals with a relational approach, in deep and diverse community.

Our Story

South Langley Church began as a children’s outreach ministry from East Aldergrove MB Church (now Ross Road Community Church). In 1959, this group purchased an acre of land in Brookswood, and in 1964 they began holding church services with 17 charter members.

Throughout our five and a half decades, much has changed, but we have retained our desire to bless Langley, and to invest in the next generation.

We have also retained our denominational identity as a Mennonite Brethren church. Some key MB distinctives are peacemaking, justice, real-life discipleship, and a Jesus-centered interpretation of the Bible. For more on our beliefs, read our denomination’s Confession of Faith.

Over the years, we’ve become more ethnically and theologically diverse, reflecting a wider range of the Christian family. All of it, though, is held together by our shared allegiance to Jesus.
